Camus escribió a su profesor tras ganar el Nobel

Camus escribió a su profesor de primaria para darle las gracias tras ganar el nobel de Literatura.El 7 de noviembre de 1913, en la Argelia francesa , nació uno de los grandes autores, Albert Camus el cual ganó el Premio Nobel en 1957. El segundo hijo de Lucien y Catherine, Camus tenía sólo 11 meses cuando su padre murió en acción durante la batalla de Marne en la segunda guerra mundial. Su madre , parcialmente sorda y analfabeta,  sacó adelante a  sus hijos de la pobreza extrema con la ayuda de su abuela a base de muchos esfuerzos.

Fue en la escuela que Camus ya brillaba , debido en gran parte al estímulo ofrecido por su
amado maestro , Louis Germain , un hombre que reforzó el potencial que vió y 
condujo  al joven Camus hacia un camino que le llevaría a ser respetado y finalmente
premiado en novela y ensayo.Louis Germain le ayudó a preparar el examen de ingreso y también
convenció a su abuela para que le dejase seguir sus estudios. 

Camus nunca olvidó los esfuerzos y ayuda de su profesor. Por eso, tras dedicarle el 
discurso de agradecimiento al recibir el Nobel también le escribió una carta para
agradecerle en primera persona todas sus enseñanzas.

Dear Monsieur Germain,

I let the commotion around me these days subside a bit before speaking to you from the bottom of my heart. I have just been given far too great an honour, one I neither sought nor solicited.

But when I heard the news, my first thought, after my mother, was of you. Without you, without the affectionate hand you extended to the small poor child that I was, without your teaching and example, none of all this would have happened.

I don’t make too much of this sort of honour. But at least it gives me the opportunity to tell you what you have been and still are for me, and to assure you that your efforts, your work, and the generous heart you put into it still live in one of your little schoolboys who, despite the years, has never stopped being your grateful pupil. I embrace you with all my heart.
